More people=more fun, and that’s why doing family activities can be both rewarding and memorable. While Disneyland is a once in a lifetime experience for kids (and adults), there are many other activities the entire family can enjoy. Whether that looks like beaches or mountains, these four adventures are fit for the whole family.
I remember going to Wallowa Lake State Park as a kid and renting paddle boats with my parents. We spent the entire day cruising around, eating lunch at the deepest point in the middle of the lake, and getting into squirt gun wars.
Many lakes and ponds in urban areas offer paddle boat rentals for $15-$30, so go ahead and make a day out of it. Take your kids to the playground, feed the geese, and rent paddle boats for the afternoon.
Aim for a Hole-in-One at Mini Golf
Dating back to its mass production in 1916, mini-golf started in Pinehurst, North Carolina with the Thistle Dhu course. Since then, it’s been a go-to activity for families and first dates. Many family fun centers have mini-golf courses, but if you feel like testing out your swing more seriously, some golf courses offer a mini-golf course that has fewer windmills and more sand traps.
Pitch a Tent in a Natural Forest
Thomas Berry said, “Teaching children about the natural world should be seen as one of the most important events in their lives.”
Camping isn’t restricted to campgrounds, and oftentimes a jaunt to the forest will be more rejuvenating than your local KOA. Your kids will love being able to roam around and discover the natural world around them. Bring a book about wildflower species and identify some together. Teach them how to build a fire, or try to construct your own lean-to.
Visit a Hands-On Science Center
In Colorado we have the Children’s Museum of Denver, but a quick Google search populates science centers in a city near you. Not only is the entire experience interactive for the kiddos, but for parents as well! From learning about dinosaurs to our solar system to the history of native lands, your kids will come away with applicable knowledge that will stick with them as they move through life.
Go on a Family Rafting Trip
We only say it because it’s true! Taking kids on a rafting trip is an experience they’ll remember for a lifetime. At KODI we offer multiple trip types for every ability level. Whether you want a more moderate experience or a rocking ride through rapids, we have you covered.
