Awareness Water and Rope Rescue (AWR)

This 8-hour classroom seminar introduces you to the problems associated with water and rope rescue. It also outlines procedures to follow during flash floods, large-scale disasters, and seasonal flooding.

In order to accomplish the responsibilities of the awareness level responder, this course also provides you with a conceptual understanding of the principles, applications, and hazards associated with advanced water rescue techniques. No previous experience necessary.

The course is designed to develop knowledge of:

  • Scene assessment and incident size up (of both existing & potential conditions)
  • Resource ordering
  • Activation procedures for rescue response
  • Site control and scene management
  • Hazard recognition and mitigation procedure

Swiftwater Rescue Technician Unit 1 (SRT 1)

The SRT1 course is our most popular water safety course. It provides you with the fundamentals of survival in moving water and is recommended for anyone who may have to do in-water rescues.

You’ll gain knowledge in hydrology, river classifications, size-up, site control, and scene management. Practical skills include self-rescue, swift water swimming, and the fundamentals of shore, boat, and in-water rescues. Additionally, you’ll be introduced to the basics of boat handling and rope rescue, including mechanical advantage and anchor systems.

The Swiftwater Rescue Technician Unit 1 (SRT1) class also provides you with the foundation to the NFPA Swiftwater Technician level. Swiftwater Technician level is a mandatory training level for inclusion on a Federal Emergency Management Agency Swiftwater/Flood Search and Rescue Team at all team levels.

Whitewater Rescue Technician (WRT)

This course is designed specifically for professional guides, private boaters, fish and game personnel, and others who work or play on or around flowing water.

In this intensive, hands-on course, you’ll learn to use techniques and simple equipment to assess and perform river rescues. The emphasis is on speedy, low-tech, and improvised rescue techniques that are effective and require minimal equipment.
